Work begins on ambulatory surgery center at NorthPointe

ROSCOE — In 10 months or so, the new ambulatory surgery center could be accepting patients at the NorthPointe Health and Wellness Campus.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in April for the 30,939-square-foot facility that will represent a $15.27 million investment for Beloit Health System.

“We could not have done this without your support,” Beloit Health System President and CEO Tim McKevett told the crowd gathered behind the NorthPointe facility for the ceremony.

He said local community leaders, area fire protection districts, patients of the NorthPointe facility and others offered tremendous support for the project.

The surgery center received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities Review Board in June after an arduous review process that included testimony from several people in the community.

McKevett said construction on the project is expected to be complete by the end of the year, and the surgery center is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2017.

The two-story addition will have two operating rooms and two procedure rooms on the ground floor. Outpatient procedures including orthopedic procedures, opthalmology procedures and GI (gastrointestinal) procedures will be performed in the new ambulatory surgery center. Fourteen pre-surgery and post-surgery patient rooms also will be part of the facility. The surgery center is expected to create 24 full-time equivalent jobs to staff the new facility, McKevett said.

“We’re very excited to give our staff the tools to provide quality care to the people of the community,” McKevett said.

He noted there were several reasons Beloit Health System officials started planning the expansion at NorthPointe. One reason was to offer new and needed procedures to the people of the area. But, the new facility also will free up room at Beloit Memorial Hospital for some of the more major surgical cases in its surgical suites. McKevett said some of the outpatient procedures still will be performed at the Beloit facility, but the health system had to make room in the surgical department, particularly with construction underway for the new Hendricks Family Heart Hospital.

The general contractor for the new ambulatory surgery center will be Klobucar Construction of Beloit. Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA), which was the architectural firm that designed the NorthPointe Health and Wellness Campus, is also the firm for this project.

NorthPointe Health and Wellness Campus, at 5605 E. Rockton Road, opened in 2007, offering physician offices, lab and X-ray, a fitness center with exercise equipment, a swimming pool, a warm-water therapy pool and more.
