OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh Corp. is building a $100 million manufacturing plant in Mexico that will employ about 1,000 people.
The company's announcement comes as it cuts several hundred jobs in its defense industry division in Oshkosh by year's end.
Oshkosh Corp. spokesman John Daggett says the plant in Leon, Mexico will make vehicle components, but not defense industry parts. Daggett tells the Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1GSakiT ) the Mexico plant will not take jobs from the company's factories in the U.S. or Canada.
Oshkosh has cut hundreds of jobs in its defense division because of reduced U.S. military spending. Another 250 to 300 production jobs and 70 salaried positions will be cut in December.
