On the Move— Spring 2018

Rockford Mutual Insurance Company recently announced Kent B. Shantz, CIC, former C.O.O., as their new Acting President and CEO. Shantz joined Rockford Mutual Insurance January of 2012 as Vice President of Operations before being promoted to Chief Operations Officer April 2013. During this time, he has developed a strategic plan and created a roadmap to success for Rockford Mutual Insurance Company. He has worked with the company’s claims department to mold a philosophy of handling claims fast and fair which has resulted in a successful 96 percent customer satisfaction rate. In addition, he is responsible for the launch of the company’s new Policy Administration System Rockford Express.

Rockford Mutual Insurance Company has announced Patrick D. Kennedy, former Director of Claims and Internal Counsel, as their Vice President of Claims and Internal Counsel. He assumed his new responsibilities in January. Kennedy joined Rockford Mutual Insurance Company in September 2009 following experience with other national and regional carriers. He was promoted to Director of Claims & Internal Counsel in December 2014. Kennedy has been instrumental in many of the positive changes within the Claims Department in addition to working on numerous legal matters on behalf of Rockford Mutual as their Internal Counsel. Patrick worked diligently to create and implement the company’s litigation management process, streamlining our auto estimating process, and improving our recovery processes. Kennedy has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from John Carroll University, a Master of Business Administration from Roosevelt University and a law degree from Chicago Kent College of Law.

Steve Eldred, President and Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank and Trust Company (FNBT) is pleased to announce that Don O’Day has joined the company as Executive Vice President Chief Lending and Retail Officer. In this role, O’Day will lead the commercial and retail banking teams in serving our communities with Sound Advice, excellent customer service and innovative financial solutions to fit the individual needs of consumers, families and businesses throughout the bank’s footprint. O’Day comes to FNBT from Inland Bank in Oak Brook, Illinois, where he held the title of Executive Vice President. As EVP Chief Lending and Retail Officer at FNBT, O’Day will lead the commercial and consumer banking teams in serving our communities with Sound Advice, excellent customer service, and innovative financial solutions to fit the individual needs of consumers, families and businesses throughout the bank’s footprint. O’Day earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of Illinois - Champaign-Urbana, and has had an impressive career in banking including retail sales, customer service, commercial and consumer lending, treasury management, credit administration, as well as executive
leadership.

Lisa Zeimetz has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Compliance and CRA Officer. Zeimetz joined First National Bank and Trust (FNBT) in 2015 and has completed several industry training courses and certifications, including the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers (ICB), a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association. As Compliance and CRA Officer, she manages the administration of compliance and risk management activities and procedures, to ensure that the bank remains in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. She also chairs the bank’s Regulatory Compliance Committee and is responsible for administering the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) program. Active in the community, Zeimetz volunteers with the YWCA of Northwestern Illinois, and recently joined the Downtown Beloit Association’s Economic Restructuring Committee.
With nearly 15 years of experience in banking, Laura Klockner has been promoted to Assistant BSA Officer at FNBT. Klockner came to FNBT in 2010 as a teller supervisor of the bank’s Winnebago office. In 2014, she joined the accounting department and was quickly promoted to Accountant/BSA Administrator. As Assistant BSA Officer, Klockner is responsible for reviewing transaction reports to ensure the bank complies with the bank secrecy act (BSA). Klockner graduated from University of Wisconsin – Stout in 2008, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in retail merchandising and management. She volunteers with Beloit Meals on Wheels.

Keith McCormick, of FNBT, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Commercial Banking Officer serving the Monroe, Wisconsin, market, after recently earning the Credit Risk Certification (CRC) designation from the Risk Management Association (RMA), a professional association serving the financial services industry. McCormick joined FNBT in 2010 as a commercial banking trainee, and moved to Monroe, Wisconsin in 2011 as a commercial banker. His responsibilities include lending in the best interest of both the customer and the bank as well as attentive listening to his clients to provide sound advice. He has completed several banking related courses and was a part of the Green County Leaders class of 2012-2013. His volunteer activities include Habitat for Humanity of Green County, the Young Professionals of Green County, and he regularly volunteers during the Green County Cheese Days festival.

Wanda Moucha has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Deposit Operations Manager. Moucha has over 35 years of bank experience, all with FNBT. She joined the bank while in high school through a Cooperative Education Program in partnership with Clinton High School in Clinton, Wisconsin. As deposit operations manager, Moucha is responsible for managing the overall deposit operations functions of the bank, developing and implementing programs and procedures to support the bank’s products and services, and ensuring the accuracy to achieve outstanding results. By providing Sound Advice, she strives to help customers with their financial needs to help them succeed financially. Moucha has earned the Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) designation through the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) Electronic Payments Association.

First National Bank and Trust Company (FNBT) is pleased to announce that Nick Purkapile has joined the company as account services manager and officer. In this role, Purkapile will be responsible for overseeing work completed by FNBT’s Deposit Account Services team. He will manage a team of six people and lead process improvement initiatives to provide consistent Sound Advice to the bank’s customers. He comes to FNBT with 13 years of banking experience, most recently serving as Bank Manager at BMO Harris.

First National Bank and Trust (FNBT) is pleased to announce that Stephanie Larson has joined the company as Retail Branch Manager at the bank’s Elkhorn location. Larson comes to FNBT with 15 years of banking experience, most recently as a branch manager at Town Bank in Wales, WI. In her new role, Larson will manage the day-to-day operations of the branch. She values relationships and enjoys working with customers to provide Sound Advice to consumers and businesses as they move from one financial life stage to the next. She will be responsible for developing her branch staff through coaching and training to help them achieve professional goals. Larson resides in Mukwonago with her husband, Travis. Together, they have 4 children. She will be based at First National’s Elkhorn branch located at 190 E. Geneva St.

Deanna “Dee” Lacny has been promoted to Executive Director of Rock House Kids effective January 1 from Chief Operating Officer. Rock House Kids established back in 1999 in Rockford, Illinois, seeking to help impoverished children in the community. Rock House Kids provides evening programming for children ages 6-18 Mondays through Thursdays and is open year round. It reaches up to 300 children each week with a hot meal, basic life instruction and take home bags of food along with seasonal giveaways. Rock House Kids does not receive any government funding.

SwedishAmerican’s Dr. Manika Bhateja recently relocated to SwedishAmerican Stateline Clinic, 4282 E. Rockton Road, Roscoe. Bhateja previously was located at Rock Valley Clinic in Rockford. Bhateja graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed her pediatrics residency training at Michigan State University and is board certified in pediatrics. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has a special interests including disease prevention, childhood obesity and childhood ADD and/or ADHD.

Blackhawk Bank is thrilled to welcome Mortgage Planners Rob Grindle and Warren Swanberg to the Blackhawk Mortgage Team and Bank family. Both Grindle and Swanberg’s valuable experience, above-and-beyond work ethic, and Core Values align perfectly with those at Blackhawk Bank. Grindle was born and raised in Rockford, earning his Associate’s degree in General Business from Rock Valley College and later graduating with honors from Arizona State University with his Bachelor’s degree. He began a career in banking at First National Bank Rockford (now Chase. Grindle comes to Blackhawk Bank from Alpine Bank, where he has worked since 1999. Swanberg has over 8 years of banking experience and most recently worked as a Mortgage Wholesale Representative, overseeing eight branches and 14 loan officers while providing loan assistance to two of the highest producing Mortgage officers in the Rockford area. Swanberg graduated from Central Methodist University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Grindle and Swanberg will be working as a team at Blackhawk Bank.

Todd Martinovich, of Spectrum Insurance Agency, 5301 E. State St., Rockford, recently completed “Cyber and Privacy Liability Exposures and How to Use Them,’ a continuing education course provided by WebCE. Martinovich received eight credit hours towards his Continuing Education requirements set forth by the Department of Insurance of Illinois.

Larson & Darby Group named Kimberly Bruce its Director of Marketing and Public Relations. Bruce joined the firm in early January 2018. In this role Bruce is responsible for advising, overseeing, coordinating and monitoring the firm’s strategic planning, marketing strategy, and public relations initiatives, and managing internal and external corporate communications. Bruce, a Milwaukee native, has more than 18 years of marketing and public relations experience, nearly half of which is in the A/E/C industry. Prior to moving to Rockford, Bruce worked at the second largest architecture firm in Milwaukee where she supported marketing, public relations, business development, brand identity, research and strategic planning functions. Bruce studied communications at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is a graduate of two Rockford Chamber of Commerce programs, Leadership Rockford and Rockford Leadership Alliance. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and Society for Marketing Professional Services. Bruce serves on the board of Winnebago County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and chairs its marketing
committee.

First National Bank and Trust Company (FNBT) is pleased to announce that Marie Strombeck, senior vice president retail banking, has been appointed to serve on the board of directors of the Stateline Boys & Girls Club in Beloit, Wisconsin, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving youth between the ages of six to 18, by providing them with after-school and summer programs including education and career, character and leadership, health and life skills, as well as sports, fitness and recreation, to help support future success of the youth. In her role at FNBT, Strombeck has oversight for the bank’s retail banking division throughout the bank’s footprint. She is responsible for monitoring new developments in retail delivery methods and market needs, developing the retail strategic plan, and the overall performance of the retail branch network. Strombeck joined the bank in October 1997 and now has more than 35 years of banking experience. She holds an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in business management and has an extensive background in bank branch management prior to coming to FNBT.
Active in the community, Marie is a member of the Downtown Beloit Association’s (DBA) design committee member, and she regularly volunteers for DBA’s Street Dance and Octoberfest fundraising events. She resides in South Beloit with her husband, Steve.

This program is a multi year training course taught by experienced personnel in the areas of welding, fabricating, cutting, bending, and finishing. Sarah will be required to complete book learning along with on the job training, and upon completion she will be a skilled craftsman.

KMK Media Group, a Rockford-based marketing communications firm, promoted Dashanda Mosley to a full-time Communications Specialist position. Mosley will work collaboratively with KMK team members on clients’ public relations, social media, advertising and marketing projects spanning industries including healthcare, education, financial, government and hospitality. Mosley joined KMK Media Group last year, bringing with her content management, marketing and PR experience from working at a medical software company and a nonprofit organization. A Rockford native, Mosley is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago’s Public Relations program.

SwedishAmerican is pleased to announce Natalie Wilson, MBA, BSN, RN has been named director of the Regional Cancer Center. Wilson previously served as an operations manager at SwedishAmerican Stateline Clinic in Roscoe. Wilson brings 15 years of nursing experience, 10 of which was in pediatric oncology at UW Health, and six years working in management. A Rockford native, Wilson received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees from Rockford University.

First National Bank and Trust Company (FNBT) is pleased to announce that Tari Book, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Loan Operations Systems Manager. Book began her career with FNBT in 1995 in the Loan Department and has been the Loan Operations Supervisor since 2010. She was promoted to officer in 2013. In her new role, Tari will provide technical support and direction for all software used in the lending process, coordinate the installation and testing of lending system upgrades with the bank’s technology, operations, and frontline team members, as well as monitor the system to ensure a seamless process. Book was the valedictorian of her high school class and went on to complete several management and industry courses throughout her 27-year banking career, including several certificates through Rockhurst University’s Continuing Education program. Active in the community, Book is involved with the Leaf River Lions Club, the German Valley Sno-Riders Snowmobile Club, and volunteers with Leaf River’s annual festival, Leaf River Daze.
