New Casey’s coming to Beloit

TOWN OF BELOIT — A new Casey’s General Store is coming to the Town of Beloit this year, with a groundbreaking this spring.
Town administrator Ian Haas said that a groundbreaking for the new general store will occur in March or April based on conversations with Casey’s General Store representatives.

He said the Casey’s will be on the Northwest corner of Inman Parkway and Prairie Avenue and that the corporation has been in negotiation for the property since before he started as town administrator.

“I think it’s wonderful. We’re seeing a lot of development in the town that’s sparked interest in more commercial development,” Haas said.

He said the project proposal already has gone through an application process and has had conditional use and sign permits approved as well as extraterritorial review approval from the City of Beloit.

Haas was unaware of any timeline as to when the store will be operational.

Micheala Price, store manager at the Casey’s on Cranston Road in Beloit, said he’s been informed by the corporate office that another store will be coming to Beloit.

Sam Knezevic, financial analyst at the corporate Casey’s General Store, confirmed a groundbreaking will be held in March or April with no exact date set yet.

He estimates the store will be built four to six months after the groundbreaking.

“So if we break ground in the spring probably sometime in the fall we would open,” Knezevic said.

He said the new location was a good fit for a new store.

“Based on the community and the traffic counts for that intersection it checked all of the boxes,” Knezevic said. “We’re expanding throughout the state of Wisconsin, so we’ve been ramping up our store count in a number of communities throughout the state.”

He said that historically there are approximately 500 general stores in Iowa, about 400 in Illinois, while there were less than 20 stores in Wisconsin just one year ago.

Casey’s General Store has more than 2,000 locations, including locations in Roscoe, Rockton, Beloit, Machesney Park and Janesville. Depending on the location, Casey’s General Stores offer patrons gas as well as food such as donuts, subs, pizza and an option for delivery.

Haas said more development projects like this one are in the works in the town but declined to comment further at this time.
