Mercyhealth to present $250,000 check to University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford for expansion

Mercyhealth will present a $250,000 gift to the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford on Wednesday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. The check presentation will be held at the College, 1601 Parkview Avenue, Rockford. Javon Bea, President and CEO of Mercyhealth will present the check Alex Stagnaro-Green, Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.

Mercyhealth’s generous donation will support the college’s expansion to a four-year medical school. The College expansion will bring 55 first-year medical students to Rockford this August. Historically, medical students spent their first year in Urbana and completed the remaining three years in Rockford. Having them on our campus all four years will add to the continuity of their education, strengthen relationships among students and enhance their exposure to the Rockford region. Mercyhealth’s gift to facilitate this expansion includes support of a new anatomy laboratory with state-of-the-art virtual bodies in addition to traditional cadavers and a technology-rich classroom designed for “team-based learning.”

Tours of the new space will be available following the brief presentation.
