Longtime Rockford physician becomes hospice care of America’s new CEO

RockfordDr. Mike Werckle has assumed the role of CEO at Hospice Care of America, based in Rockford, after submitting a letter of intent to purchase the hospice. He previously served as Hospice Care of America’s Medical Director for seven years before taking on the new position.

Dr. Werckle has a long history of service to the medical field, having served as the Associate Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Assistant Dean and Director of Education for the University of Illinois College of Medicine of Rockford, Chairman of the Department of Medicine and President of the medical staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He also has 25 years of private practice experience in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.

In addition, he served as the Medical Director of Rockford Clinic and was on the board of Rockford Memorial Hospital, Visiting Nurses Association and Wesley Willows. He is currently a board member of Lifescape and The Blazer Foundation in Rockford.

Dr. Werckle has earned numerous accolades throughout his career as a medical professional. He has received the Distinguished Service Award, the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Arnold Gold Humanism in Medicine Award.
