Varilek, Anderson win Henry C. Anderson Quality Award 

The Henry C. Anderson Quality Award recipients were Luann Varilek, BSN, RN in SwedishAmerican’s Nursing Resources Department and Dr. Henry C. Anderson.

Varilek has worked for SwedishAmerican for 33 years, taking on many roles over the years and having a vast amount of impact on all areas of the hospital. She has a commitment to quality improvement through the development of patient placement processes, the furthering of employee education and certification, and continual statistical data. She strives to achieve a high-level of excellence by being thorough in her quality data analysis and is always willing to assist staff of all levels and is extremely committed to quality care for patients.

The Dr. Bill Gorski Mission Award was presented to the Baby-Friendly Task Force. The award goes to a team of individuals and departments (Mother/Baby, Labor & Delivery, Special Care Nursery, Women’s Health Education and SwedishAmerican OB/GYN Clinics) who have worked tirelessly for three years on the Baby-Friendly designation that significantly benefits mothers and their new babies. This group of individuals worked on updating policies, created new materials for new parents, conducted surveys and an audit, developed action plans and made measurable improvements of providing quality care to its patients. Each associate committed themselves to 15 hours of modules and five hours of hands-on practice and most importantly this group of individuals has committed themselves to educating new moms on the importance of mother/baby bonding and breastfeeding to ultimately help mom and baby have improved long-term health outcomes.

SwedishAmerican presents $20K to Patriot’s Gateway
The SwedishAmerican Foundation recently presented a $20,000 check to Patriot’s Gateway. The check was presented during Patriot’s Gateway Capital Campaign luncheon at Rockford Country Club on June 14. Patriots Gateway provides youth programs to develop each child’s unique talents and the skills needed to become a productive citizen. They also provide opportunities for adults and families. Patriot’s Gateway is located in Rockford’s Midtown community, a focus area for the Foundation.
Schwobe wins 2016 Silver Million Dollar Lender Award
Dave Schwobe, USDA Rural Development State Director, named First National Bank and Trust Company as a recipient of the 2016 Silver Million Dollar Lender Award.
The Award is presented each year to lenders who have partnered with, and made a significant contribution to, supporting Wisconsin rural residents looking to become homeowners through the USDA Guaranteed Rural Housing (GRH) Program.
In fiscal year 2016, First National Bank and Trust utilized more than $1 million of GRH program funds by financing home purchases to help moderate income families in Wisconsin. Nearly 2,400 families across Wisconsin were able to purchase a home last year through the GRH loan program, totaling nearly $318 million.
“Working with our lending partners across the state, we’ve made a difference to those rural families prepared to realize the responsibility and benefits of owning a home,” said Schwobe. “We value our partnership with First National Bank and Trust Company and commend their achievement and contributions to meeting rural housing goals for Wisconsin.”

The Million Dollar Lender Award is given at three levels and is based on the total amount of funding utilized by the lender. Silver level disbursed more than $1 million, Gold level disbursed more than $2 million, and Platinum level disbursed more than $5 million during the past year.

ABC Supply Co. celebrates 35 years of business
Building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. is celebrating 35 years of serving contractors, an era that has seen the company focus on achieving co-founders Ken and Diane Hendricks’ mission to provide the resources contractors need to help their businesses succeed while treating them with the respect they deserve. Starting with three stores in 1982, the company has grown to over 700 stores in 49 states.

SwedishAmerican hosts employee PB&J drive
During SwedishAmerican’s Founder’s Week in June, the hospital held an employee peanut butter and jelly drive at 21 SwedishAmerican locations throughout northern Illinois to provide meals to children in need during the summer months. SwedishAmerican donated more than 700 pounds of peanut butter and jelly, which is approximately 600 jars and roughly 9,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. SwedishAmerican donated the jars to the Rock River Valley Food Pantry in Rockford and smaller food pantries in Roscoe/Rockton, Belvidere, Davis Junction, Byron and Rochelle.
McClure Engineering Associates joins IMEG Corp.

McClure Engineering Associates, Inc. has joined IMEG Corp., creating one of the largest civil engineering firms in the Midwest.

McClure’s 85 team members – including the staff at its Rockford location – add to IMEG’s expansion of its civil operations begun by a recent merger with another Illinois-based civil firm, Missman, Inc. In addition to its Rockford office, McClure has offices in East Moline, Waukegan, Ottawa, and Macomb, Illinois.

“Like IMEG, our firm was founded in the Quad-Cities and has a valued reputation spanning decades,” said Brett Fetter, President/CEO of McClure Engineering. “We have grown to several offices over the years, and the merger provides us with the avenue for bringing our experience and expertise to an even larger client base – and providing additional services to our current clients due to IMEG’s broad spectrum of engineering disciplines.”

Pearson Fastener achieves certification from task force
Pearson Fastener has achieved 16949:2016 First Edition Certification from the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) as a supplier of high-quality custom fasteners to automotive manufacturers. ITAF 16949:2016. First Edition certification defines the requirements of quality management systems for organizations in the automotive supply chain. The IATF, which oversees this particular standard, based it on ISO 9001:2015 with substantial enhancements over previous standards. Therefore, to gain IATF 16949:2016 First Edition certification, suppliers must comply with the new ISO 9001 standard, ISO 9001:2015- ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2015.

“By achieving this level of certification, it shows Pearson’s commitment as a word-class supplier by having a quality system in place that drives continuous improvement for our internal and external stake holders,” said Larry Fey, Director of Sales at Pearson.

Founded in 1971 and based in Rockford, Illinois, Pearson Fastener designs and manufactures quality custom fasteners for industries including automotive, lawn and garden, transportation, marine, food service, healthcare and military, as well as fastener distributors. KMK Media Group hired by Cliffbreakers Riverside Hotel
KMK Media Group, a marketing communications firm, was hired by Cliffbreakers Riverside Hotel & Conference Center to publicize various aspects of its $2.5 million facility renovation that includes the meeting spaces accommodating up to 1,200 guests, the lobby, restaurant, bar and hotel rooms. The iconic riverfront facility expects all upgrades and construction to be complete by February, 2018. KMK Media Group also was hired by Medical Pain Management Services in Rockford to develop a marketing strategy to effectively communicate new treatment options for chronic pain including alternatives to opioids and to communicate the advantages of a coordinated care approach to pain management. KMK Media Group, a marketing communications firm, was hired by Ipsen to develop a promotional video highlighting the company’s heat-treating solutions and innovations. Ipsen develops thermal processing technology with applications utilized in aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, tool & die and various industries across the globe. Ipsen has more than 10,000 of its innovative systems installed worldwide.

KMK Media Group also was hired by Boylan Catholic High School to design signage for the student entrance to the building which many families used as a backdrop for taking photos on the first day of school.

Re/MAX office has been added to brokerage group
The RE/MAX Professional Advantage office in Byron, Illinois, has been added to the brokerage group led by Tom Humpal that includes RE/MAX Property Source in Rockford and Belvidere, and RE/MAX Hub City in Rochelle, Illinois. Headquarters are at the Rockford office. The nine brokers in the Byron office bring the total number of agents affiliated with Humpal’s firm to 40. Based on 2016 sales achievements, RE/MAX Property Source/RE/MAX Hub City earned recognition for the second year in a row from REAL Trends magazine in its annual report on the most productive residential brokerages in the United States.

First National Bank presents ‘Crack the Vault’ grand prize
Sarah Berryman, branch manager of the First National Bank and Trust (FNBT) branch in Darien, Wisconsin, presented the $2,500 “Crack the Vault” grand prize to Reyna Flores of Delavan, Wisconsin as part of the bank’s “Crack the Vault” customer appreciation event. Customers and community members were invited to visit one of five Walworth County branches the week of August 7-12 to play the interactive game and see if their unique code would “Crack the Vault.” Flores’s winning code was one of approximately 17,000 codes were sent out to community members and available at the branches for the game; nearly 1,000 entries were received. All game registrations were entered into the random drawing for the $2,500 grand prize.

SwedishAmerican obtains certification for rehab program
SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health is proud to announce the certification of its Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Rehab program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). SwedishAmerican was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care. This is the ninth year in a row SwedishAmerican has received certification. Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designs to help people with cardiovascular problems (like heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) and pulmonary problems (like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory symptoms) recover faster and improve their quality of life. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.

Dog Haus breaks ground on new Rockford location
Dog Haus, the craft casual concept known for its gourmet hot dogs, sausages, burgers and one-of-a-kind creations, recently broke ground on its Rockford, Illinois location, with a planned grand opening set for Fall 2017. Located at 7616 Walton Street, the restaurant will be franchisee group Goalz, LLC’s first location with the rapidly expanding fast-casual brand. Goalz, LLC was formed by four restaurant industry veterans, Shawn Eby, Danny Robinson, David Clark and Wade Lancaster, who had a goal to start and develop their own company that would focus around helping others.

Goalz Restaurant Group is currently scheduled to open 265 restaurants over the next few years across ten states and has additional plans to grow further. Currently the three brands that Goalz will franchise are Dog Haus, Captain D’s, and Church’s Chicken.

The fast-casual concept, designed to elevate the hot dog and burger-eating experience, will serve up its quality meals within the contemporary aesthetic of a modern industrial space. After ordering at the counter, diners will be able to grab a barstool at the communal tables, take a bench seat at one of the reclaimed wood and steel tables or step outside to the welcoming patio.

Peoples Bank officially becomes Advia Credit Union
Peoples Bank officially became Advia Credit Union on Sept. 1. Advia now serves over 140,000 members with 28 branches in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.

In Wisconsin and Illinois, there will be a total of 10 branches in Beloit, Janesville, Williams Bay, Waukesha, Elkhorn, Silver Lake, Burlington and Rockton, Illinois.

Aspire Indiana Health receives certification
Aspire Indiana Health, Inc., a theFranaGroup client, has been certified as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike, joining a select group of 58 other clinics nationally who have achieved Look-Alike status.

Aspire operates five primary care clinics in Anderson, Carmel, Indianapolis, Lapel and Elwood, Indiana. Aspire is the 37th theFranaGroup client clinic achieving Federally Qualified Health Center status. Collectively, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are the largest primary group practice in the country, producing $24 billion in annual health system savings.

J. Henry & Son’s named state’s top craft whiskey
Wisconsin Corn is pleased to announce that J. Henry & Sons’ Patton Road Reserve was judged as Wisconsin’s top craft whiskey in a blind judging supervised by the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) in Chicago.

The competition was sponsored in part by the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board, and drew more than 75 whiskey entries from ten states. Spirits were evaluated within appropriate categories (bourbon, corn whiskey, etc.), and top state medals were awarded to those achieving the highest scores in their respective states.
