SwedishAmerican marketing team earns multiple awards
SwedishAmerican’s marketing team earned 3 Gold and the “Best in Broadcast” ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation of Northern Illinois (AAFNI) during an awards celebration at the Prairie Street Brewhouse in March. The group earned the highest recognition in the following categories: consumer website, local television campaign, and internet commercial. The ADDY awards competition is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of Northern Illinois, the trade association that serves the interests of the advertising community in Rockford and the northern Illinois area.
Thayer Lighting Team travels to 2017 LEC Specifier Summit
The Thayer Lighting Team traveled to the 2017 LED Specifier Summit at Navy Pier in Chicago. The team participated in Continuing Education classes, seminars and reviewed products from over 200 manufacturers in the LED industry. The LED Specifier Summit focuses on the latest LED lighting education and solutions and features commercial, architectural and decorative LED lighting products and controls. Now in its fifth year, the Summit helps professionals stay current on the latest LED lighting trends through registered seminars and face-to-face access to leading international lighting manufacturers. A highlight of the event, “The Truth About Circadian Lighting” by Robert Solar, the VP of Human Biological Technologies & Research at BIOS Lighting discussed industry trends toward color tuning for circadian regulation as well as lighting design considerations and product benefits.
United Alloy, Inc. to add new 100,000 square foot facility
United Alloy, Inc. (UAI) recently announced it is expanding its footprint by adding a new 100,000 square foot production facility. In addition to increasing the company’s overall production capacities, this new structure will house a new painting system and facilitate finished product distribution. The company will also be expanding its existing facility by 7,500 square feet. More than 50 new full-time jobs will be created. United Alloy Inc. is a preferred designer, manufacturer and powder coater of certified metal tanks, skids, frames, trailers, chassis and related products crafted to world-class quality standards in strategic partnership with global Fortune 500 OEM customers. As a recognized serial production supply partner, UAI implements cutting-edge technology and innovation related applications to ensure its products and processes meet customer, as well as accredited third party provider, requirements. To facilitate this project, the City of Janesville approved the issuance of an Industrial Revenue Bond and it also structured a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) package.
Fairbanks Morse to build engines for Navy ship
Fairbanks Morse, an EnPro Industries company and leading provider of solutions that are powering the world forward, recently was awarded a contract to build and deliver the main propulsion diesel engines (MPDE) that will power LPD 29, the U.S. Navy’s thirteenth San Antonio landing platform dock (LPD) class ship. Fairbanks Morse will also be a featured exhibitor this week at the Surface Navy Association’s (SNA) 30th Annual National Symposium.
Construction of the engines will begin in 2019 and they are scheduled to be delivered in 2020 to Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Fairbanks Morse will then support installation, testing, and sea trials for the vessel. The four sequentially turbocharged 16-cylinder Colt-Pielstick PC 2.5 diesel engines with common rail (CR) fuel injection will deliver over 31 MW of propulsion power and are among the largest medium speed diesel engines manufactured in the United States.
Thayer Lighting recognized as Outstanding Trade Ally
Thayer Lighting has been recognized as an Outstanding Trade Ally of ComEd for 2017. This honor is given to those trade allies of Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) that have been involved in their Energy Efficiency Program since inception and have helped the Small Business offering grow.
Thayer has been involved in the Small Business offering for nine years. Exelon is one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, with approximately 5.4 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 4 million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population. The ComEd Energy Efficiency Program offers incentives and rebates for energy-efficient lighting, including fixture replacements and retrofits, advanced lighting networked sensors and controls. Since the start of the Energy Efficiency Program, Thayer has been one of the participating lighting distributors offering discounts on energy-efficient lamps to businesses in the Illinois area.
KMK Media Group hired by Knuipers Family Farm
KMK Media Group, a Rockford-based marketing communications firm, was hired by Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park. The commercial farm contains an apple orchard and pumpkin patch visited by hundreds of thousands of people every year. KMK will provide marketing and social media consulting to the business which features a haunted forest, train, corn maze, baseball throw, cider, and donuts. The property is also a choice venue and backdrop for many picturesque weddings and special events every year. KMK Media Group also designed an annual report and pledge card for the Boy Scouts of America Blackhawk Area Council. The infographic-driven easy-to-read report showcases highlights of the past year including major sources of revenue and how the money is spent to provide camping, programs, supplies, scholarships, special events and other activities for thousands of participants each year.
Engineering firms Missman and McClure to merge as IMEG
Civil engineering firms Missman Inc. and McClure Engineering Associates are now doing business as IMEG. The name changes follow summer 2017 mergers of both firms with IMEG Corp., with whom both Missman and McClure had long-standing relationships in delivering high-quality design engineering throughout northern Illinois. Missman, Inc. was founded in 1946 as C.E. Missman & Associates by Cliff Missman. It has offices in Rockford and the Quad Cities. McClure Engineering Associates, Inc. was founded in 1969 by William L. McClure and Jerold W. Leckman. Its offices are in Rockford, Quad Cities, Gurnee, Macomb, and Ottawa, Illinois.
Pro Arc Inc. celebrates 30 years of business in Loves Park
Pro Arc, Inc is celebrating its 30th anniversary in business during 2018. Pro Arc, Inc of Loves Park, Illinois, is a premier metal fabrication company, specializing in steel, sheet metal and aluminum parts. The local manufacturer works with OEMs in several fields, including: aerospace, medical, agricultural, automotive, food and beverage, and the US military. Denny Forni started the business as a one person weld shop to supplement his motorcycle business. When Guy Hendrickson joined Pro Arc, he brought with him several decades of machining experience, and expanded Pro Arc’s capabilities.
Pro Arc has continually grown over the years, and currently offers design, cutting, bending, welding, machining, fabrication and finishing services.
In 2016 Pro Arc outgrew its facility on Forest Hills Road, and added a second location to better serve its customer needs. Pro Arc will host a 30th anniversary open house celebration later this year.

American Advertising Federation presents 2018 ADDY Awards
The American Advertising Federation of Northern Illinois presented its 2018 American Advertising Awards, the ADDYs, for advertising creative excellence. Of the 91 entries received by the AAF Northern Illinois, 20 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze ADDY Awards were presented. Entries were judged based on creativity, originality and creative strategy in more than 70 categories. GrahamSpencer captured the “Best of Print,” award for their “Bring Your Game to Rockford Sports Pad,” done for the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as the “Best of Show” award for the brand identity campaign the creative agency produced for their client, Big Grove Brewery. Other top awards of the evening showcased the “Best Broadcast Campaign,” presented to SwedishAmerican for their Kids 2017 TV campaign. GrahamSpencer won “Best Digital Campaign” for their online video campaign, “Road Less Traveled,” produced for the Rockford Mass Transit District. The award for “Best Integrated Campaign” was presented to Blount International for their “Best Batwing You Ever Designed” campaign done for Woods Equipment. Digital Hive Mind captured the Best of Video award for their “Reuzel,” video produced for J.L. Clark.
