LOVES PARK — One of the Stateline Area’s largest employers recently landed a U.S. Army contract worth $54 million to repair and refurbish parts used in thousands of military helicopters.
Woodward Inc., formerly Woodward Governor, will inspect and repair over 4,000 hydro-mechanical units for military Blackhawk and Apache helicopters, according to Woodward Marketing Manager Billy Kent. Kent said in an interview with the Beloit Daily News the units included in the contract will be rotating fuel pumps and supporting control items associated with the helicopters’ gearbox.
“This is a good maintenance practice for us to do and some of these engines have been out in the field in tough environments for 10 to 20 years,” Kent said.
Woodward employs 2,200 people across two facilities in the Stateline Area and a total of 9,200 people across 14 different countries. According to governmentcontractswon.com, a watchdog that tracks government contracts tied to the U.S. military, the Loves Park facility has secured over $350 million in defense contracts since 2010.
